Patent Infringement and Copyright Infringement Attorney - Tara J. Williams

Welcome. I began my legal career approximately 18 years ago, after graduating from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Having an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Auburn University, I focused my practice in intellectual property law and advised clients about issues related to patents, trademarks and copyrights. I have had the opportunity to work in many different environments with many different challenges. I have worked as an attorney in private practice, as a corporate patent lawyer with a national chemical company, as well as in-house counsel for a start-up internet company. I have advised clients in many different technologies and on a multitude of intellectual property rights matters.

Throughout this time, I learned that the size of the client’s company did not reflect the importance or value of the intellectual property, nor its potential commercial or societal impact. I also unfortunately learned that many inventors, regardless of the importance of their inventions, were unable to get the representation they needed to protect their intellectual property rights because they did not have the necessary funds to hire an intellectual property lawyer. Very often because of lack of funding few clients could ever assert their patent rights against potential infringers. All available funding had been invested in obtaining the patents.

Through these experiences, I sought to develop ways to assist independent inventors and small entrepreneurs in getting the help they needed in a manner they could afford. We are committed at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin to helping independent inventors and small businesses find ways to get the representation they need. As head of the Intellectual Property Law Section, I speak to many inventors who seek this assistance. I also have the opportunity to speak to many law firms that are willing to help.
